42. BUILDING SVIT AREA IN ZLÍN

Zlín

May 2023

architectural study

Adam Bednařík

The Svit area is an example of functionalist buildings in Zlín from the beginning of the first half of the 20th century. The area is made up mainly of typical buildings with a uniform system of reinforced concrete skeleton, which is filled with brickwork and "green" hole fillings. We try to preserve these characteristic features and the overall idea of integrity in the design.

The revitalization of the 42nd building aimed to visually unify the exterior of the building in the form of common elements in the form of a new fire escape, a new entrance, cladding of the elevator engine room and a new bistro vestibule. Part of the visual unification was also the incorporation of the original roof extension of the last floor and its unfortunate atypical form.

The design of common elements repeats the motif of perforated metal with a combination of the traditional "green" Baťa's color and the motif of greenery, which used to be an inherent part of the original factory complex of the Svit area.
